Living that late night life with The End Of The Game on Jimmy Kimmel Live
Peoples of the nations of Weezer - lend us your eyes and ears - we have news and it be big!
First of all, we have a new weezer album for you, entitled “Van Weezer”. Right now the tentative release date is set for May 15th. We know it’s a ways away, but hey this is rock n roll and we’re making our own rules (aka we just might release it sooner). The good news is you can pre-order it now.
The inspiration for this album was from the deepest roots of Weezer - metal! Metal, you say? What's that got to do with weezer?
Let's take a trip back. In his earliest years, Rivers was a huge KISS fan, and as he grew, he sought out more technical metal like Fates Warning (...all while also loving pop music). Meanwhile, Brian was a big Black Sabbath fan, and Pat worshipped at the altar of Van Halen and Rush. Scott was more into new wave but couldn't deny the rising forces of Slayer and Metallica.
The last time this vein of harder rock was mined by weezer was on 2002’s Maladroit, but even that album had some softer sides. But the time has come today for Weezer to fully indulge the beast of metal, with Van Weezer!
The first single from Van Weezer is “The End Of The Game”, out now & we have a brand new video for it too (starring Cherry Glazerr)!
But that's not all folks...
Next summer we embark upon a tour unlike anything weezer has ever done - Hella Mega, a stadium tour with Green Day, Fall Out Boy, Weezer & The Interrupters! The pre-sales start Tuesday, September 16th at 10am local time. If you want first access at tickets right at 10am, go pre-order Van Weezer from our webstore - where you’ll get sent a unique pre-sale code (North America only). Don’t feel like pre-ordering the record just yet? Sign up for to the mailing list for free to get a shot at tickets starting at 11am local time on 9/16. The general on sale for all shows begins Friday, September 20th at 10am local. Get the dates.
We have a long history with our friends in Green Day, first seeking them out (unsuccessfully) at Gilman Street club while on an early van tour in ‘93. Then over the years we shared stages, rehearsal spaces and booths at Thai restaurants in Hollywood! We’ve even covered them on a Green Day tribute album. But this, at long last, is our first ever tour with them, and we can't wait! And despite having known Fall Out Boy for many years as well, this will be our first tour with them too!
So check it out! We’ve got you covered with "The End Of The Game," Van Weezer, and Hella Mega!
Oh, and one last thing before we let you go (and it's a good one)! We're kicking off all the Hella Mega fun TONIGHT with Green Day and Fall Out Boy in LA at the Whisky A Go Go. Limited tickets will be sold at the box office only, starting at 12pm PT.
That's all for now, folks! Until next time…
Shaking things up in the desert and then taking the show to Jimmy Kimmel Live! See you Monday night.
Squeezed the Weez into the Tiny Desk for some fun with NPR Music (+ you may hear a few deep cuts along the way)! Watch the performance.
